# Change your plan: upgrades, downgrades, and proration

Change your plan from the Subscription tab on /profile. Upgrade to Combo or switch to annual in place with prorated billing, or cancel a product to drop it when your paid period ends.

Updated October 7, 2026

You change your plan on the Subscription tab of your profile. Upgrades happen right away: we credit the unused part of what you already paid and charge only the prorated difference to your card on file. Canceling stops the next renewal, and you keep every benefit until the end of the period you paid for.

## Your Subscription tab, row by row

Open your profile and choose the [Subscription tab](https://staging.bepreparedsolutions.co/profile?tab=subscription). On narrower screens the tab is labeled **Plan**. There are three paid products: BeAware for monitoring, BeReady for plans, and Combo, which is both together for one price.

Your Subscription tab on /profile

- **The status line** at the top says "You're protected" with your next renewal date. If everything you hold is set to cancel, it says "Coverage ends soon" and the date your access runs through.
- **One row per product.** Each row shows the product, Monthly or Annual, the date it started, the date it renews (or ends), and the price. An **Includes** line lists what the product gives you, such as monitored addresses or plan sharing.
- **The three-dot button** on a row is the **Manage subscription** menu.
- **Discount Eligibility** at the bottom shows whether the kit and BeAdvised consulting discounts are unlocked for you. They unlock with Combo, or with annual BeAware and annual BeReady subscriptions both active.

With no paid plan, the tab shows **Start your protection** and a **View plans** button.

## How does upgrading to Combo work?

If you hold one annual product, you can turn it into annual Combo in place during your upgrade window, and pay only the prorated difference. The window opens with your first paid subscription and lasts a set number of days (30 by default).

1. Find the green card, **Upgrade to Combo and unlock everything**. It counts down the days left to add both products with a single Combo subscription. The same offer appears as a banner on Home, which you can dismiss for the day.
2. Select **Upgrade to Combo**. A confirm window opens and works out the charge: **New plan**, **Credit for unused time**, tax when it applies, and **Total today**. It also names the card we will charge, by brand and last four digits.
3. If we do not have a billing address for you, enter your ZIP code so tax can be worked out. The confirm button stays off until you do.
4. Confirm. The change is immediate, and both suites unlock right away. Your renewal date stays the same, and the plan renews at the Combo price.

If your card is declined, or needs an extra verification step this window cannot complete, nothing changes. Your current plan stays exactly as it was, and the message tells you what to try next.

The Combo card mentions "5% off kits." That discount applies only when BePrepared fulfills kits directly, not when kits sell at cost through Amazon. [How the Combo kit discount works](https://staging.bepreparedsolutions.co/help/beequipped/combo-discount) explains when it applies.

### When the Combo upgrade is not offered

- **You pay monthly.** The card reads **Switch to annual and unlock Combo** instead. Use **Switch to annual** first. Its confirm window works the same way: it credits the unused part of your current month and charges only the prorated difference. After that, the Combo upgrade unlocks for the rest of the window.
- **A subscription is set to cancel.** Reactivate it first, then upgrade.
- **The window has closed.** You can still add the other product separately. Use **View plans to unlock** on the tab, or go to the [pricing page](https://staging.bepreparedsolutions.co/pricing).
- **You already hold both products.** The in-place Combo upgrade is not available. If they are not both annual, **View annual plans** shows the annual options.

Combo itself is sold both monthly and yearly on the pricing page. Only the in-place upgrade on this tab is limited to annual Combo.

## What happens when I cancel?

Canceling stops the next renewal, and you keep every benefit until the end date on the row. After that date, the product stops and your account drops to the Free plan if nothing else is active.

1. Open the **Manage subscription** menu (the three dots) on the product's row.
2. Choose **Cancel subscription**.
3. Read the dialog. It names the date your benefits run through. Choose **Cancel at period end**, or **Keep my subscription** to back out.

The row then reads **Ends** instead of **Renews**, with a note: "You'll keep all benefits until" that date. To change your mind, press **Reactivate** on that note before the end date, then confirm. The subscription goes back to renewing as usual.

You can also cancel by writing to support \[at\] bepreparedsolutions.co. Canceling never brings a prorated refund for the part of the period you have already paid for.

The tab has no separate downgrade button, such as Combo to BeAware only. Under the Terms, a move to fewer features takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you keep full access until then. For a change the tab does not offer, [contact support](https://staging.bepreparedsolutions.co/contact).

## Can I get a refund?

Only on an annual subscription, within 7 days of the first annual charge ever made on your account, and only once per account, ever. An annual subscription you add later is not refundable. Monthly subscriptions are not refundable; cancel them to stop the next renewal.

When a refund is available, **Request refund** appears in that row's **Manage subscription** menu, with the days left, shown like "5d left". It shows only while the subscription is active and not set to cancel, so request the refund before you cancel.

The refund dialog is deliberate:

- It shows the amount, which goes back to your original payment method. The Terms say refunds are processed within 10 business days.
- The subscription is canceled **immediately**, not at the end of the period.
- Paid-tier data you cannot use on the free plan is deleted, including monitored addresses tied to that product and plan shares above the free limit. Save or export anything important first.
- After this refund, every future charge on your account is non-refundable, including renewals, upgrades, switches between monthly and annual, and new subscriptions.
- You type **REFUND** to confirm, then press **Yes, refund and cancel**.

The full rules are in the [subscription and refund terms](https://staging.bepreparedsolutions.co/terms#subscription).

## Notes that appear under your rows

- **Combo and a standalone product at once.** That is expected during an overlap. A note says Combo already covers it and that the standalone product won't renew after its current date.
- **Different renewal dates.** If you hold products on monthly and annual billing, a note explains that switching both to annual lines up the renewals and unlocks the kit and consulting discounts.

## Two common changes

Someone on BeReady starts worrying about outages near a relative and wants BeAware too. Inside the upgrade window, they press **Upgrade to Combo**, see the credit for the BeReady time they already paid for, and confirm a small prorated charge. Both suites are active within the minute.

Someone who started BeAware monthly decides to stay for the year. They use **Switch to annual**, which credits the unused part of the month. Being on annual also opens the Combo upgrade while the window lasts.

Your plan sets how much of BePrepared works for you: BeAware watches for change, BeReady holds the plan, and Combo keeps both on one renewal.
